Lighting the Eternal Flame in Your Marriage

"You shall command the children of Israel, that they bring you pure olive oil beaten for the light, to cause a lamp to burn continually. “Exodus 27:20

In Parashat Tetzaveh, Hashem commands Israel to keep the menorah burning continually in the Mishkan. The light represents His presence, purity, and guidance. Just as the menorah was to remain lit at all times, so too should the flame of love, respect, and devotion in marriage never be allowed to go out.

Reflection for Couples

The menorah required pure olive oil, carefully prepared and refined. Likewise, a strong marriage requires intentional effort, consistent prayer, open communication, and acts of love that are refined over time. Yeshua, the Light of the World (John 8:12), is the One who illuminates our relationship, guiding us through seasons of joy and struggle.

Ask yourselves:

  • What small acts can we do daily to keep our love burning brightly?
  • Are there areas where we need to refine our communication and bring more honesty and grace into our relationship?
  • How can we invite the presence of Yeshua more fully into our marriage?

A Kohen's Garments: Covering Each Other in Love

Parashat Tetzaveh also describes the special garments of the High Priest, which symbolize holiness and dignity. Marriage is a sacred covenant, and just as the Kohen's garments covered him in glory, so too should spouses “clothe” each other with love, respect, and honor (Colossians 3:12-14).

Practical Steps:

  1. Speak Blessings: Just as the High Priest interceded for Israel, speak words of encouragement and prayer over your spouse.
  2. Serve with Love: Acts of kindness, whether small or large, reflect the servant heart of Yeshua in your marriage.
  3. Cover Each Other in Prayer: The Kohen wore the names of Israel on his breastplate. In the same way, carry your spouse’s needs before Hashem in daily prayer.

A Prayer for Your Marriage

"Abba, we thank You for the covenant of marriage. Just as You commanded the menorah to burn continually, help us to keep the flame of love and devotion alive in our relationship. Yeshua, be the center of our marriage, refining us like pure oil. May we cover one another with grace, patience, and forgiveness, just as You cover us with Your love. Amen."

Shabbat Shalom! May your marriage shine brightly as a testimony of His love!
