(Exodus 30:11–34:35) Listen to your Devotional HERE
Theme: Restoring Brokenness in Relationships
Opening Prayer
"Abba, thank You for Your mercy and patience. As we study Your Word today, help us to see how we can grow together as a couple in love, forgiveness, and faithfulness. B’shem Yeshua, Amen."
Reflection on Parashat Ki Tisa
Parashat Ki Tisa tells the powerful story of Israel’s sin with the golden calf and the consequences of broken trust. Yet, it also reveals G-d’s mercy and the process of restoration. This is deeply relevant for marriage because every couple experiences moments of failure, disappointment, and broken trust.
In Exodus 32, the Israelites grow impatient while Moses is on Mount Sinai, so they create a golden calf to worship. This betrayal deeply wounds their relationship with G-d. Similarly, in marriage, impatience, miscommunication, and unmet expectations can lead to actions that damage trust.
However, G-d does not abandon His people. Instead, He provides a path for renewal through Moses’ intercession, discipline, and, ultimately, a new covenant. Likewise, when mistakes occur in marriage, healing is possible through repentance, grace, and rebuilding trust.
Discussion for Couples
- Identifying "Golden Calves" in Marriage
- Are there things in our relationship that we prioritize over G-d or each other? (e.g., work, social media, hobbies, unresolved resentment?)
- How can we realign our hearts toward G-d and one another?
- Responding to Conflict with Grace
- How do we typically react when we feel betrayed or hurt?
- What can we learn from Moses' intercession and G-d's mercy in dealing with each other’s shortcomings?
- Rebuilding and Renewing
- Just as G-d gave new tablets of the covenant (Exodus 34), how can we create a fresh start in our relationship after hurt or misunderstandings?
- What practical steps can we take to rebuild trust?
Practical Application
- Confession & Forgiveness: Take turns sharing one area where you may have hurt your spouse and ask for forgiveness.
- Renewal Covenant: Write down a small commitment to each other for the coming week, one way you will demonstrate love and faithfulness.
- Prayer Together: Just as Moses sought G-d’s presence, invite G-d’s Spirit into your marriage daily.
Closing Blessing
"May Ad-nai, who is merciful and slow to anger, teach us to love with patience and grace. May our marriage reflect the faithfulness of Yeshua, and may our hearts be ever renewed in His presence. Amen."
Shabbat Shalom!
