Theme: Remembering the Journey Together

Scripture Focus:  “The LORD your G-d has been with you; you have lacked nothing.” Deuteronomy 2:7

Messianic Jewish Insight

Parashat Devarim is Moshe’s retelling of Israel’s journey through the wilderness, a reflective monologue before entering the Promised Land. This portion highlights G-d’s faithfulness amid Israel’s failures, fears, and frustrations. As Messianic Jewish believers, we read this with Yeshua at the center. Just as Moshe reviewed the past to prepare the people for their future, Yeshua invites us to remember G-d’s faithfulness as we step into the next chapter, especially in our marriages.

Couples’ Reflection

1. Your Marriage Journey Has a History

Moshe doesn’t sugarcoat Israel’s past, he recalls rebellion, fear, and missed opportunities. Likewise, couples often try to forget their “wilderness” seasons. But honest reflection is part of healing. Looking back isn’t for blame, it’s for learning, gratitude, and growth.

2. G-d Was There in Every Season

Even in complaints and confusion, G-d never abandoned Israel. In your marriage, remember: G-d is with you in both the highs and lows. Reflect together on the “wilderness” times, how has G-d carried you?

3. Don’t Let Fear Keep You from Promise

Israel’s fear of giants delayed their entry. In relationships, fear of vulnerability, past hurt, or change can block intimacy and progress. Yeshua empowers you to move forward, not in fear but in faith.

CBT Connection: Thought-Tracking for Marital Growth

Ask yourselves:

What are some recurring negative thoughts I have about our relationship?

Are these thoughts absolutes (“You never…” or “We always…”)? Can I challenge or reframe them?

How does remembering G-d’s faithfulness help shift my perspective?

Exercise:

Each spouse writes down one negative belief about the relationship and one memory where G-d showed up in a hard season. Share it with each other. Then pray, asking G-d to help you reframe your story together.

Prayer as One

Abba, thank You for being faithful through every wilderness. Help us to remember where we’ve come from, but not to live in regret or fear. Teach us to walk forward together, trusting You for the promises ahead. Thank You for the gift of each other. In Yeshua’s name, amen.

Discussion Prompts

What part of our “wilderness” journey has made us stronger?

Where do we still struggle with fear, and how can we encourage each other in faith?

What promise from G-d do we want to walk into together this season?
