Parashat Eikev (Deuteronomy 7:12–11:25)

Scripture Focus

“Because you listen to these rules and keep and do them, Ad-nai your G-d will keep with you the covenant loyalty that He swore to your fathers.” Deuteronomy 7:12

Theme: Faithfulness in Covenant Love

Parashat Eikev reminds us that G-d’s blessings flow “because” (Eikev) His people walk in covenant faithfulness. Just as Israel’s obedience to G-d’s Word sustains the covenant, so too, faithfulness and obedience nurture a marriage covenant. In marriage, small acts of love, forgiveness, and loyalty may seem ordinary, but Scripture teaches us that it is precisely these daily choices that secure blessing.

Counseling Reflection for Couples

  1. Shared Obedience: Just as Israel was called to obey together, a couple is strongest when they follow G-d together. Are we pursuing Yeshua side by side?
  2. Gratitude for Provision: Deut. 8 reminds Israel not to forget the Source of their blessings. Couples, too, can slip into taking one another for granted. Where can we express more gratitude?
  3. Humility vs. Pride: G-d warns Israel not to say, “My strength produced this wealth.” Likewise, in marriage, pride tears down intimacy. Humility builds trust and unity.
  4. Forgiveness and Renewal: Just as G-d renewed the covenant with Israel after failure (Deut. 9–10), couples also need to forgive, reconcile, and renew their vows of love daily.

Couple’s Discussion Questions

  1. What small “daily obediences” (kind words, prayer together, acts of service) can we recommit to this week?
  2. How can we remember to thank G-d and each other more often for blessings big and small?
  3. Where do pride or self-reliance sneak into our relationship? How can humility restore connection?
  4. Is there an area where we need to ask for forgiveness and make a fresh start?

Prayer for Couples

Abba, we thank You for the covenant of marriage, which reflects Your covenant love with Israel and the Messiah’s love for His Bride. Teach us to walk humbly, love faithfully, and serve each other with gratitude. Guard us from pride, and help us to forgive as You forgive us. May our marriage bring glory to Your Name and blessing to others. B’shem Yeshua, Amen.

Couple’s Weekly Practice

  • Gratitude Journal Together: Each evening, write down one thing you thank G-d for, and one thing you thank your spouse for. Share it aloud. This simple practice roots your marriage in gratitude and covenant awareness.
